Starts in Sweden and there is a family who looses their mom and the dad is dispondent and his brother and family move in with them. The brother has come upon hard time s and is there to help with the farm. The dad is so depressed and missing his wife he actually takes his own life and leaves these older teenage kids to be cared for by the brother. The oldest child is a boy and the uncle runs him off. The uncle takes liberties with the oldest daughter and she doesn't want it to happen to her younger sisters and knows they have another uncle in america. She asks to see if he can help pay her their passage there without her uncle knowing. When she receives the tickets then she tells her sisters and the challenge of getting them to go and the adventure just begins. It was a story about the challenges and joys of not only coming over and not knowing English, but also about putting others before yourself and see what God wants us to do. It wasn't easy, but it was a little glimpse of what the immigrants had to go thru to come into America. Very good story

I like John Sandford and plan to read all his books. This one is about a college professor whose hobby takes over his life and drives him into serial crimes.
